Millie’s House at Daly St

Welcome to Millie's House, 5 Daly St

Nau mai kia kainga o Millie’s House. Welcome to Millie’s House.

Hours of Operation
You’ll find us here at 5 Daly St every day, Monday to Friday 7.00 am to 5.30pm. We share our days with your children, both full days or part days, reflecting your needs.

Our Centre

Our home has five beautiful rooms. Children progress from our two infant groups, to toddlers and then through our two preschool groups as they grow, and when they are ready.

Our two infant rooms are side by side and share their own sweet little garden, complete with sandpit, low level climbing challenges and lots of toys with wheels, balls, textures and items that stimulate and delight.

Toddlers and our preschool group share a bigger and more challenging outdoor space with bigger climbables, a huge and very much loved and engaged with sandpit, their favourite sculpted mound with a tunnel and space to build, create and explore. Both this, and our infants outdoor area are surrounded by native tree hedging.

Our rooms all have loads of natural light and bi-fold doors that open the room up to the outdoors in summer. Our walls sing with examples of children’s work and the curriculum in action.

Beyond the Centre

Being in central Lower Hutt, we take excursions to local destinations. It is an easy walk to the library, the Dowse Art Museum and Park. We are also known to visit cafes and take excursions further afield. We have even caught the train and bus as far as Te Papa in Wellington! Playball and storytellers visit us and add an extra outside learning element into our curriculum as well.
Cultural diversity and connections are a big part of who we are. We have a team with fluent Samoan and Filipino speakers, and we celebrate with energy many cultural events across the year, inviting families to join us and support.

Our Team

Rebekah leads our centre, assisted by Kimberley and a team of passionate, fun, friendly, engaging Kaiako who are committed to developing partnerships within our learning community, connecting with the Tamariki, and creating memorable learning experiences for all to enjoy

Our centre team is supported by our last manager, who is now our Regional Manager, our Operations Manager, as well the other teams and leaders in the Millie's group. Friends and connections in the ECE community, the support of consultants, Professional Development, MOE and ERO all contribute to our ongoing commitment to ensuring we are offering the best to your tamariki.

ERO Report

Our last ERO review was in 2022. ERO's summary of findings is:

The daily curriculum provides children with a range of learning opportunities. Environments are resourced to support a variety of interests. Materials are organised to invite childrens' participation. Teachers are attentive and use positive guidance well to promote children's social competence. Children engage regularly with them in learning conversations. Infants benefit from the culture of care and ongoing communication between teachers and whānau.
